Chandos CD Release

We are pleased to announce the imminent release of a CD of some of Mischa Spolianky's film music. This was recorded by the BBC Concert Orchestra under the conductorship of Ramon Garos for the Chandos label. This CD is as a direct result of our partnership deal with Music sales. We are particularly excited about this release as we hope this to be the beginning of our endeavors to re-vive Spoliansky's name to the international prominence he once enjoyed. Theme music from films such as "The Ghost Goes West" & "Wanted for Murder" with songs which became household favorites originally sung by Paul Robeson from films "Sanders of the River" & "King Solomans Mines" originally sung by Paul Robeson, and ending with a most memorable suite "Dedication" from the film "Idol of Paris" a most accomplished piece of film composition.

Spoliansky Biography

The Trust is also excited about finalizing Mischa Spoliansky's biography. This was something his eldest daughter Spoli Mills was instrumental in uncovering and undertaking. The biography was compiled by Spoliansky himself and adapted by Penny Black. The publisher is to be Ricordi and is currently undergoing a German translation. We are hopeful of finding and English publisher in the not to distant future.

Melinda Hughes CD

The Trust is currently in discussion with singer Melinda Hughes who has been given a grant to sing songs of the Cabaret era. She has decided having heard many other Spoliansky compositions to dedicate the entire CD to Spoliansky. We are of course delighted with this and are in close contact regarding the selection of some of his songs along with a couple of unpublished compositions which she is delighted to include. Steve Edis will be Musical Director. Steve has been musical director on many of Trevor Nunns shows and is also very knowledgeable on Spoliansky music. This will be an exciting CD to get involved with as Melinda is very keen to up-date some of the numbers retro style.

Biographical Musical; Drama

The Trust has also commissioned a theatrical musical drama on the life of Mischa Spoliansky. This has been written by Jude Alderson, with up-to the minute translations by Steve Edis which reflect themes relevant today: Government corruption, inflation, depression, unemployment an d a huge influx of an emigre population from Eastern Europe The play " A Glittering Exile" explores stories from Spoliansky's life punctuated by his astonishing range of beautiful songs from the flirtatious and daring "Special Girlfriend" about a three way love affair, to the deeply felt "Auf der Mundharmonica" about exile. Other songs included from his various shows include, "Alles Schwindel" (All's a Swindle) . "Wei Werde ich rich und Glucklich" (I Want To Be Rich & Happy). "L'heure Blue" (Also known as The hour of Parting) . Auf Wiedersehn" (Goodbye) plus many other wonderful tunes. "A Glittering Exile" reflects Mischa's life in music as a joyful one. With dance routines, glitter and pizzaz. He dined out with millionaires and rehearsed in damp basements. His life long friend was the star Marlene Dietrich and his most enduring writer partner Marcellus Schiffer was a drug addict. Although underneath the glitter there is loss, tragedy and sadness. No dates at this moment.
